About SmartPoolCalc
SmartPoolCalc is a set of free calculators for people who look after their own pool. It answers the questions that come up every week (how much chlorine, how much acid, how many bags of salt) and the ones that come up once (what size pump, what size heater, what will this pool cost to build and run).
Who is behind it
The site is built and maintained by Raul Vaquerizo. Every calculator, formula and reference table is written and checked by hand. There is no company, investor or pool-supply brand behind SmartPoolCalc, and no product is recommended because someone paid for it.
Where the numbers come from
- Formulas: standard industry methods, such as dose tables derived from product chemistry, the Langelier Saturation Index, and pump and filter sizing rules used in pool and spa design. Each calculator names its source in a "How it's calculated" section.
- Prices: averages from public sources (for example, the U.S. Energy Information Administration for electricity). They live in a single data file with the source and the date for each value, they are reviewed once a year, and every price is a default you can overwrite with your own.
- Testing: every formula has automated tests with reference values worked out by hand, so a change cannot silently break a result.
What the calculators are not
Results are estimates. They do not replace the product label, a water test from a pool store, or a licensed contractor for electrical, gas or structural work. Read the disclaimer for details.
How the site is funded
SmartPoolCalc is free and shows ads served by Google AdSense. Ads are kept away from the calculator inputs and results. See the privacy policy for how ads and cookies work here.
