About these calculators
A pool has three kinds of cost: building it, filling it and running it. These calculators put numbers on each one with editable defaults taken from public sources, so you can replace them with your own utility rates and quotes.
Running costs are dominated by the pump and by heating. A variable-speed pump and a cover usually pay for themselves faster than any other upgrade, so it is worth running the numbers before you buy.
Tips before you start
- Use your own rates. Every price is a default. Your utility bill and local quotes beat any national average.
- Ask about sewer credits. Many water utilities waive sewer charges for pool fills if you ask first.
- Get three quotes. Builder prices vary widely. Compare written quotes that list what is included.
